Tell us about your background and how long you have been part of our team here at Un.titled.
I was born and raised in Leicestershire and have lived locally all my life.
I studied Graphic Design at De Montfort University and have been part of the Un.titled team for almost 18 months now.
Tell us about the work you do for Un.titled.
I’m a UI Designer, working within the design and UX team. I work on delivering projects and websites that help reflect a brand’s personality, while also making them intuitive and easy to use.
I am also involved with the marketing and sales teams. This can see me working to develop and enhance our own brand with the marketing team, or helping deliver creative input to help secure new clients with the sales team.
When approaching a new project, what do you look out for from a brand that can support your design work?
Nobody knows their brand better than the client themselves. So establishing a great working relationship and seamless communication is very important.
A university tutor of mine once told me that if you present a design and there is no feedback, then you have presented too late. This is something that I have always thought of as being great advice and I use this to help me when working on projects.
What do you prioritise in your design work? Style? Sophistication? Something different?
Another ‘S’ - simplicity. Like a joke, if a design needs explaining it isn’t a very good one.
This is something I try to be very mindful of and like to prioritise in my work.
As a UI designer, what are the challenges/opportunities when working with UX designers?
I really enjoy getting involved in projects as early as possible and shadowing the UX process. I find this allows me to hit the ground running when tackling the UI stage.
I find the opportunities to work with data really helps inform better design decisions. But this also brings the challenge of zoning into the matrix and figuring out what all these numbers mean… sometimes tough first thing in the morning!
When you’re not designing, what are you doing?
I’m a big rugby fan and follow Leicester Tigers.
I also enjoy spending time with my girlfriend and have found myself increasingly enjoying trips to the theatre to watch musicals. Didn’t see that coming!
