Talk #1 - Kirsty Joan Sinclair from FutureGov

FutureGov’s Kirsty Joan Sinclair led a talk on walls and bodies in service design, with a focus on how to make your work visible and tangible to help your team

Kirsty explored how wall spaces can be utilised to help improve storytelling, the sharing of ideas, encourage cross collaboration and gather valuable feedback on designs.

Additionally, Kirsty explained how this approach can help showcase processes and works in progress, as well as highlighting themes and provide an opportunity to ask for feedback from the wider organisation.

Kirsty also offered service design tips, and suggested being well kitted out to make best use of wall space, especially at client offices. She said have your own sticky tape, post it notes and pens to share with the client.

Additional tips were around the importance of body language and gestures. This can help communicate the scope and scale of projects.

All in all, Kirsty offered some great takeaways for anyone who works closely with multiple stakeholders and across the whole product lifecycle.

Talk #2 - Chappell Ellison from Huge

Next was a fun-filled presentation from Chappell Ellison of Huge on the mad world of content today - aptly titled ‘Too Much Damn Content’ (as Un.titled’s content writer, I’m somewhat flustered by this title.)

This talk looked at how in today’s world we are overloaded with an infinite amount of content.

The difficulty here is how can we see the wood from the trees? Chappell provided some great insight and quick tricks to escape from it all and make your content truly worthwhile.

Talk #3 - Brendan Dawes

Artist Brendan Dawes delivered a talk called ‘The Art and Beauty of Data’, and told a beautiful story about how he crafts some amazing pieces of digital art from raw data sets.

This talk was full of humour, with Brendan taking us on a journey into some of his best and worst pieces of work and how he delights his clients through clever and innovative interactive art.

Conclusion

All in all a really good day out for the Un.titled team, and an event that is well worth a visit.

The venue for the 2019 event — the Old Library in Digbeth — was equally cool.

We are confident we’ll be back next year!
